We visited Boston to compete in this junior "age on day" Trophy Gala. With all the individual events swum over 200 meters this was an excellent opportunity for our junior swimmers to practice competitive swimming over this longer distance and possibly obtain County Qualifying times.
The team had 4 wins on the night starting with the very first event when Bethany Walker won the 9 year girls 200 Freestyle. Event 5 saw the girls "Captain for the night" Jade Marsters comfortably winning the 13/Under 200 Backstroke. Events 7 & 19 provided two wins for Chloe Hannam (9 year 200 Breaststroke and 9 year 200 I.M.) both of these being achieved by very emphatic margins. Well done girls!!!
Although we did not secure any more wins a steady stream of 2nd and 3rd places saw us ease into a very comfortable 2nd place overall which was to be our overall finishing position.
The most positive statistic from my perspective was 17 PB's out of 24 individual swims and this coming when most of our swimmers have recently swum some of these 200 meter events at open meets or Club Championships. As strange as it may sound, I think some of our younger swimmers still need to learn how to race at any distance over 50 Metres. I am convinced we have some even better performances to look forward to.
