Seven South Lincs swimmers competed in the first weekend of the Midland District BAGCAT Championships held in the 50 Metre pool in Coventry. The Midland district is the largest of the districts and covers 18 different counties

Tom Lane had a fantastic weekend, swimming faster than all his entry times and achieving Long course PB’s in each event. Tom’s times when converted to a short course equivalent are also PB’s short course which again emphasises the quality of his swimming.

Vanessa Sacks was our youngest competitor and she competed in the 200 metre backstroke which is not the easiest event to do long course, particularly as your first ever swim in a 50 metre pool. Vanessa was pleased with her swim and hopes to obtain more “District” times next year.

Jade Marsters took on the 100, 200 and 400 Freestyle events and managed Long course PB’s for each discipline. Laura Biggadike also managed a Long course PB in the 200 Freestyle and is looking forward to the 800 Metre event next weekend.

Alice Horton contested six events over the two days and kicked off with a superb swim in the girls 12 year 400 metre freestyle winning the Gold medal and improving her National Qualifying time in the process. The 200 I.M. saw her placed fourth in the heats but a strong swim in the final saw her on the podium again this time taking the Bronze medal in a new PB (Long and short equivalent) and NQT. Alice continued to swim well in the longer events notching up another Bronze medal in the 400 I.M. (NQT and PB) with another NQT in the 200 Freestyle which was a joint age group event (12/13 Year)

A special mention goes to Lauren Walsham and Ellie Feuerhelm who both travelled to Coventry on the Saturday to join up with Alice and Jade to contest the two 11 to 13 year girls relays. Despite being the slowest seed in both events the girls where in outstanding form finishing 12th out of 21 teams in the 4 x 100 metre Freestyle and 13th out of 23 teams in the 4 x 100 metre medley event - Great team effort girls!!!

Alice, Tom and Laura are in action again next weekend in the rest of the events for this year’s championship.
