South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club

Gerry Gibbons Memorial Trophy Gala

South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club paid tribute to its former chairman with a home gala in his memory. Gerry had been with the club for 10 years and had done endless work for the club. He was Chairman from 2001 to 2003 and Secretary for the club from 1998 to 2001. Gerry started to set swim 21 in motion for South Lincs. He loved teaching the swimmers and had great pleasure in teaching some of our disabled swimmers. The fund raised from this gala went to Thorpe Hall the Sue Ryder Hospice in Peterborough. Great Britain swimmer Melanie Marshall a former member of South Lincs swimming club came and supported the gala bringing raffle prizes. Melanie also raced against 1 boy and 1 girl from each club, the swimmers thought that this was fantastic to swim against a swimmer than is ranked number one in the world. It was a great honour to be chosen and something they will remember for along time to come. South Lincs would like to thank Melanie for her support. It generated a great atmosphere around poolside, which was electric throughout the gala. The gala raised £236.00, which will go to Thorpe Hall, thank you swimmers and parents for your support.
